Tour of the Pyrenees and the Vall de Núria

In this section, we are going to tell you about a tour of one of the most beautiful parts of Catalonia, the Vall de Nuria, which you can book on this web page.  This covers an itinerary that lasts for 11 hours, departing from the center of Barcelona and which includes a spectacular trip on a railway that's more than 2,000 meters above sea level and will enable you to visit a beautiful monastery and enjoy a stroll amidst the stunning natural scenery.

What will I be able to visit on the Tour?

This fantastic Tour will enable you to spend the whole day in the mountains and provide an opportunity to visit one of the most famous places in Catalonia, the Vall de Núria. After a couple of hour of travelling on a comfortable, modern bus, you will be able to immerse yourself in the beauties of nature and relax in these stunning surroundings.  The Pyrenees still represent a part of the world where you can find a truly unspoiled environment.  You will be able to enjoy walking, play in the streams, explore the woods and valleys and much more, all the while, surrounded by the stunning mountain scenery.  There are only two ways of reaching the Vall de Núria: either on foot or by train.  On this Tour, you will experience panoramic views on a small railway line which travels from Fresser to the Vall de Núria. The journey is really wonderful and in just 40 minutes you will have reached 1000 meters above sea level!  Once you arrive, you will be able to visit the famous monastery, sample some typical local products, admire the lake, walk along numerous different paths and enjoy plenty of other activities for all the family!

The history of the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Nuria:

In addition to the aforementioned areas, it is worth knowing that this tour makes it possible to visit the interior of the Sanctuary of Mary, the Holy Virgin of of Nuria. This is one of the Marian sanctuaries to which the Catalan people, as well as many tourists, have a great devotion.  The story which was put together by Francesc Marès, tells of St. Giles, a priest who had arrived from Nimes in around 700 A.D. in the Vall de Nuria and then spent 4 years living as a hermit.  Subsequently, in around the year 1000 A.D., arriving in the valley from Dalmatia, he was reported to have seen a vision in which he was commissioned to find some objects belonging to St. Giles.  Said objects were, an image of the Virgin of St. Giles, a cross, the pot in which he prepared his meals and the bell with which he summoned the shepherds.  These items are all still present inside the basilica and are venerated by pilgrims.  Another interesting feature of the Sanctuary is that the Virgin of Nùria wasn't just venerated as the protector of the shepherds' flocks but also as the patron saint of women and their fertility.  In fact, tradition has it that if a woman wants to have a child, she should dip her head inside the pot and ring the bell to ask for this gift from the Virgin.

Timetables and prices

Entry tickets for Adults cost €77.00 and children up to the age of 7 are free of charge.  Departures from the center of Barcelona are at 08:00 every Monday and Saturday from the 27th March until the 12th November.
