Barcelona is a wonderful city that's full of different attractions and also boasts some wonderful beaches, but so is the landscape which surrounds it: the verdant Catalonia and the blue waters of the Costa Brava.

The beach at Sitges

Strolling along the town's streets will immediately give you the feeling of being on holiday, somewhere that time stands still and you can breathe in fresh air. In the heat of summer, the center of Sitges is bursting with life and is full of typical small shops and plenty of places in which to enjoy some delicious food: the only dilemma will be which of the places serving gourmet tapas or really fresh fish you should choose. If you are visiting Sitges you can't miss out on a visit to the historic Chiringuito (a beach bar) - whoever had this idea originally was later copied by the restaurant owners in Barcelona. The beach at Badalona

Badalona is the perfect destination for those who prefer to avoid complicated travel arrangements but who, at the same time, you like to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of the ctiy. The beach at Badalona can be easily reached via the metro Line L2 (Violet) by getting off at the stop called Badalona Pompeu Fabra followed by a short walk on foot. The other alternative is to take the Renfe R1 train from the Sants station which takes about 20 minutes and leaves passengers right by the sea. The beach at Badalona also has disabled access and is the perfect spot for families.

The beach at Mataró

Mataró is a seaside town that's situated along the Costa Brava and is well known for its clear waters and its typical Mediterranean scenery. The town, which has Roman origins, is full of life and can offer everything that the many tourists who visit it every year could need in order to relax on the long stretch of beach (particularly on the beautiful Platja de Sant Simó which is situated towards the north and is a little further from the port). You'll also be able to admire some beautiful architecture such as the famous Casa Coll. Getting to Mataró is easy - just hop on the Renfe R1 train from the Sants station and you'll reach your destination in about half an hour.

The beach at Lloret de Mar

Lloret de Mar doesn't really need any introductions as its fame precedes it making it one of the most famous tourist destinations on the Costa Brava. It main beach is the Playa de Lloret which is really long and stretches right into the city center. The beach has fine white sand and the beach is equipped with a range of facilities for all ages. Getting to Lloret de Mar from Barcelona via public transport is quite complicated so it would be easier and more convenient to hire a car as the journey time will just take you about an hour by road.
