Sants Montjuïc is the largest district in the entire city and covers almost a fifth of the city' s territory. It is known and appreciated for its numerous attractions and is visited every day by many tourists and lovers of beauty. In fact, from the Montjuïc Castle it is possible to enjoy one of the most spectacular views in Europe.
The neighbourhoods that make up the district of Sants Montjuïc are distinguished by the presence of narrow streets and small squares, large sports centres, museums and cultural centres. There are seven neighbourhoods within the district: La Bordeta, Hostafrancs, Sants Badal, Montjuïc, Font de la Guatlla, Marina, Zona Franca and Poble Sec. The district has been in existence since the 20th century with the advance of the textile industry. In fact, each neighbourhood has different characteristics, but one thing they have in common is that they were born as working class neighbourhoods.
The attractions of this district are really numerous, but without a doubt the most visited attraction is the Montjuïc hill. At 185 metres high, it is one of the most beautiful sights in the city, and many tourists get excited every day looking for the view of the Sagrada Familia from there. The stones of the hill, were used in the construction of various buildings in the city: the story of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar established in the Born district is famous for this. Visiting the hill is a unique experience and to make the most of the views, you can take the cable car, which will transport you to the castle at the top of the hill. Montjuïc Castle is home to various exhibitions that tell the historical events to which it has belonged, but also to social events and open-air cinema nights. Speaking of this district, we cannot forget to mention one of the most important museums in the city, the National Art Museum of Catalonia, La Plaça d'Espanya, the Magic Fountain, Poble Espanyol, the Olympic Stadium, the Joan Miró Foundation and Palau Sant Jordi.
The attractions of this district are truly numerous and if you have time to visit them all, you will feel a fortunate and enriched person by the end of your trip. Often, time is not enough and it is necessary to optimise it as much as possible. Visiting the districts in the company of an English guide will allow you to discover every detail in the different districts in a quick and easy way. At Barcellona.shop. even if your trip is short, we advise you not to miss the exciting show, completely free of charge, of the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, where lights, colours, water jets and music will warm your heart and leave a wonderful memory of Barcelona. Discover the Joan Miró Foundation and its historic mercury fountain and discover the miniature Spain of Poble Espanyol.
TAfter all this moving around, up and down Montjuïc Mountain, you'll get hungry at some point, and in this vast district you'll have a wide variety of places to try. We recommend you try tapas at Quimet & Quimet, an excellent vermouth bar, where you can enjoy some really exquisite tapas: last but not least, we recommend Palo Cortao, where you can try a really delicious fusion of Asian and Spanish cuisine.
